PICEA pungens

'Colorado Spuce'. A medium-sized to large tree of conical habit, with stout orange-brown young shoots, glaucous at first. Leaves rigid, sharply pointed, green to grey, spreading all round the branchlets, but denser on the upper surfaces. Cones to 10cm long, green when young. The typical form is uncommon in cultivation due to the popularity of its glaucous-leaved forms of which there are considerable number.
