LIRIODENDRON tulipifera

'Tulip Tree'. A fast-growing tree with a conical crown, characterised by its distinctive, oddly shaped, three-lobed leaves which turn golden-yellow in autumn. The peculiar flowers, appearing in June, are tulip-shaped, yellow-green banded with orange at the base of the petals but are not produced on young trees. Planted on deep, humid soils, on preference planted with root-ball.(5)
