SKIMMIA japonica

A variable, small, dome-shaped shrub of dense habit, with leathery, obovate to elliptic leaves. Terminal panicles of white, often fragrant flowers in April and May are followed, on female plants, by clusters of globular, bright red fruits. A most adaptable shrub in all its forms, equally at home on chalk or acid soils.(8)
