VIBURNUM plicatum

A wide-spreading, medium-sized to large shrub of architectural value, with a distinctive mode of branching. The branches are produced in layers creating, in time, an attractive and characteristic tiered effect. The bright green pleated, ovate to oval leaves are followed in May and early June by 7.5-10cm wide umbels of small, fertile, creamy-white flowers surrounded by conspicuous, white ray-florets. Fruits red, finally black. The leaves are often attractively tinted in autumn.(5-6)
